Kelburn Castle and Country Estate

kelburn castle and countrly estate in largsKelburn Country Estate is ideally located just outside of the popular tourist town of Largs. The Estate is owned by the Boyle family, whose head of the family is otherwise known as the Earl of Glasgow.

Kelburn Castle itself dates from the 13th century. The castle has been updated through the years, however still retains its historical charm. The castle has stunning exotic gardens and in the Kelburn Glen, contains woodland, waterfalls and gorges. It is no surprise that it is popular with guests.

Children and adults alike will not be disappointed with the many activities on offer. Children will be left in awe at the secret forest, a complex of paths and raised walkways cut through a wild wood, in which you may discover a Secret Grotto, a crocodile pool, the Maze of the Green Man, a Castle with No Entrance, a Chinese Garden, a Gingerbread House, a secret passage leading out of the Woodman's cottage, a 25 foot high pagoda and many other surprises.

The estate also offers nature walks and horse riding. The latest addition to the castle is the Graffiti Project. The idea of the project was simple and original: take the vibrant and often transient art form of Brazilian graffiti, out of its predominantly urban context and apply it to the ancient and permanent walls of an historic rural castle in Scotland. It has proven itself to be a great conversation point and brought in some much needed funding to allow the castle the longevity it deserves.
